چکیده

The S-N discrete ordinates (DO) method is developed for the first time to solve transient radiative heat transfer in a two-dimensional rectangular enclosure with absorbing, emitting, and anisotropically scattering medium subject to diffuse and/or collimated laser irradiation. The transient DO method is used to solve several example problems and compared with the existing results and the Monte Carlo predictions. Good agreement between the transient DO solutions and other predictions is found. Finally, the transient DO method is applied to investigate the characteristics of short-pulsed laser radiation interaction and transport within biological tissues.

Three Dimensional Laminar Convection Flow of Radiating Gas over a Backward Facing Step in a Duct

In this study, three-dimensional simulations are presented for laminar forced convection flow of a radiating gas over a backward-facing step in rectangular duct. The fluid is treated as a gray, absorbing, emitting and scattering medium. The three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system is used to solve the governing equations which are conservations of mass, momentum and energy. These equations...

Numerical simulation of a three-layered radiant porous heat exchanger including lattice Boltzmann simulation of fluid flow

This paper deals with the hydrodynamic and thermal analysis of a new type of porous heat exchanger (PHE). This system operates based on energy conversion between gas enthalpy and thermal radiation. The proposed PHE has one high temperature (HT) and two heat recovery (HR1 and HR2) sections. In HT section, the enthalpy of flowing high temperature gas flow that is converted to thermal radiation em...

Transient Radiative Heat Transfer in a Cubic Participating Medium Subjected to a Diffuse Square Pulse Train

Three-dimensional numerical computations were carried out to understand the overlap effect of the transmitted pulses in a cubic participating medium subjected to a diffuse square pulse train using the transient discrete ordinates method with the pulse boundary condition. In concrete terms, the effects of the pulse width and pulse train interval on the divergence of radiative heat flux were scru...

Heat Transfer Characteristics of Porous Radiant Burners Using Discrete-Ordinate Method (S2-Approximation)

This paper describes a theoretical study to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of porous radiant burners. A one dimensional model is used to solve the governing equations for porous medium and gas flow before the premixed flame to the exhaust gas. Combustion in the porous medium is modeled as a spatially dependent heat generation zone. The homogeneous porous media, in addition to its...

Discrete-ordinates solution of short-pulsed laser transport in two-dimensional turbid media.

The discrete-ordinates method is formulated to solve transient radiative transfer with the incorporation of a transient term in the transfer equation in two-dimensional rectangular enclosures containing absorbing, emitting, and anisotropically scattering media subject to diffuse and/or collimated laser irradiation. The governing equations resulting from the discrete-ordinates discretization of ...
